Over three years ago I presented the idea of a Good Neighbor Award to the Environmental Commission. I told my fellow Commissioners the story of a neighbor who during sunshine, rain, snow, sleet, or hail would always take time to pick up trash on the side of the road/sidewalk. Not for glory, but just to make our little corner of the world a bit better than before.
I am a big believer in recognizing those who are good people, doing good things. I believe that highlighting something like this encourages others to do good, especially in a world where there is often so much negativity.
Fast forward to the June 9th, 2026 City Council meeting, where I was honored to be able to present the second annual Good Neighbor Award to an incredibly deserving individual, Kathy Ouma.
Her passion for beekeeping extends beyond her backyard, into the local, County, and even State communities. Where she spends time educating others on the intertwined connection of the bees, life, and the environment truly spoke to the commission.
This award wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the commission, council, administration and those who took the time to nominate the individuals for the award.
It really is nice to see that there are residents, neighbors and friends looking to make their corner of Twinsburg just a bit better. I am excited to see who the 2027 Good Neighbor will be. ![]()
