I often tell my students at the end of each semester “no matter what you do in this life, take what you have learned here to do good things and be a good person.” I say this with sincerity to all of my students because I know deep down, after teaching them Government and Civics for a semester, that they are the change makers, and the future leaders of tomorrow. In our course I provide a number of opportunities for students to understand what it means to be civically engaged, and get involved in their own communities. Whether they are attending their City Council meetings, donating blood, volunteering at food pantry’s, or working to solve problems locally.
Personally, I love to be able to give back, and help out here in our City of Twinsburg. I always find there are so many opportunities to do so! No matter what it is, big or small, I leave with a greater appreciation for our City and the neighbors and friends in it. This past weekend, I was able to play a small part in the FrostBright Parade of Lights put on by the Twinsburg Parks and Recreation Department and the City of Twinsburg. Colleen and I passed out lights to people of all ages before the parade kicked off, helping to make their night a bit more magical. It always is amazing to me how something as easy as passing out a light with a smile can bring people together.
Following the parade, we walked around and said hi to different friends and neighbors. These conversations really reminded me, yet again, just why Twinsburg is the special place it is. Some photos of the event can be viewed below, or at this link.
